Honouring My Mum’s Memory Through Food and Giving
This cookbook is more than recipes, it is a living memory of my mum. Her kitchen was the heart of our home, filled with the scent of simmering stews, the laughter of family and the quiet wisdom she passed down with every dish. She believed food was never just about eating, it was about love, generosity and bringing people together.
To honour her life and the values she instilled in me, proceeds from this book will be donated in her name to The Stroke Association (www.stroke.org.uk) twice a year on 1st April and 1st October. I will publish the donations openly here, with Gift Aid added, so that every contribution goes further, and every supporter can see the impact they’ve helped create.
What began as a family project has now grown into something extraordinary: people across the world are buying this book, cooking these recipes and joining in the mission. From South African expats in London, to families in Sydney, to food lovers in Amsterdam & New York, each purchase carries my mum’s memory into new kitchens and new communities.
This worldwide support means her kindness is no longer bound by geography, it ripples outward, crossing borders and cultures. Every pot stirred, every oven warmed, every recipe shared is part of her legacy. Through this book, her memory continues to nourish, comfort, and inspire, not just our family, but communities touched by the donations made in her name.
Together, we are proving that food and memory can unite people everywhere, turning the simple act of cooking into a global force for good.
